Pennsylvania Ski Area Guide -- Very Complete

Today is one of the last days of the ski season. The snow is melting but enough for kids to have The good: The snow tubing hill was fast, high, and a lot of fun! My family husband and 3 kids aged 13,13,10 loved the snow tubing here. It was crowded but the tubing lines moved quickly. The hill was fast and there are plenty of lanes.

Loved that we could connect our tubes and go down together. We have gone tubing before at Camelback and we prefer Big Boulder! My only complaint was buying the ticket took forever! Only one person was working the window. For a holiday weekend that was annoying. The line to get in the park was long. But once we were in I learned to ski here many years ago! Now with 2 young children, we come up here to go snow tubing. Last year was great, but freezing cold think below 0. It made for some awesome tubing though because you went down really fast and the lines moved quickly.

This year it was in the 50s and slowed everything down. Still fun but longer lines because people were stopping near the bottom and then had to carry their tube off the rest of the way. We did about 4 runs before the kids got tired of waiting in lines. There is a fun indoor water park at Split Rock if you need something else to do. We didn't go this year but it gets crowded there too, so if you go the earlier the better. They were awarded free ski passes through their school.

Jack Frost was recommended because they have more beginner trails. If you plan on skiing and snow tubing, there is a really good deal you should be aware of Tubing at Jack Frost is from 10am to 1pm or 1pm to 4pm. You can alternate between skiing and tubing, and go back to doing either one. To get up the hill, you sit your butt down in the tube and they attach your tube to a tow rope, which takes you to the top. Unfortunately, Jack Frost closes at 4: I was told I could take them over to Big Boulder for the rest of the day because Big Boulder closes at 10pm.

So, that's what we did and it went well. No additional money was needed. Our ski passes and rentals were good at both mountains. The kids also did snow tubing at both mountains. Big Boulder has a much better snow tubing area. To get up the hill, you stand on a conveyor belt with your tube behind you, and the belt takes you up the hill. The tubes really fly down the hill, be prepared because it's extremely fast.

The down side was, the kids waited in line for 45 minutes after getting to the top of the mountain. But each of them said it was worth the wait for such an incredible ride down! Both facilities were clean and had friendly staff members. We were lucky enough to see a fireworks display while at Big Boulder. It was great! I would never recommend tubing at this mountain. I have been going to Big Boulder for almost 40 years. I loved the skiing there.

However, I took my son tubing for the 10 am -1 pm session during the holiday weekend of MLK weekend. There was one person at the window at I mind you this was during the holiday weekend. We finally got on the mountain at It would have been more runs but for some reason, someone on the management team had a bright idea of allowing the new tubing people on the mountain to walk across where the people coming down the mountain were coming to a stop. Therefore, whenever a new batch of people paid we had to wait each and every time, which was absurd.

It slowed down the whole process. I decided to give the tubing experience another shot since I have loved this mountain since I was a child. This time I brought my daughter and my son for the second time. We decided to do the 1 pm-4 pm session. It was the worst experience ever. We went down the mountain a total of 4 times in 3 hours. In essence we sat in line at the top of the mountain for minutes and tubed for 1 minute and 40 seconds.

Each run is about 35 seconds. My son after the first run said he didnt even want to wait in line anymore and sat in the lodge until my daughter and I finished at 4 pm. So I wasted The poor kid sat around in the lodge for 3 hours when all he wanted to do was tube. They continue to sell tickets no matter how many people are on the mountain. Another mistake. As my daughter and I were in line I decided to call management to see why things were so different than the last time we were there.

I unfortunately, was put in touch with Ted customer relations. Useless, conversation with no regard to make matters right or answer any questions. He attitude was extremely disrespectful. He gave me his email address. I asked if Mark was in that day and he said yes he is. I said ok, can I speak with him. He said no, you can only email him.

I said does he have a radio and I can meet him at the base of the mountain. He said he does have a radio but he wont contact him. I gave up and said Its a shame that no one is willing to speak to me or address my concern. I continued with my daughter and we enjoyed our time together. The icing on the cake was when I was at the top of the mountain and the employees said anyone with a 4 pm ticket this will be your last run.

She asked if anyone with a 4 pm-7 pm ticket was here, at the top of the mountain in line and about half of each 7 lines screamed yes. She said welcome. However, this was at 3: No wonder why the lines were so long, the people that weren't supposed to be on the mountain yet were impeding on our time. My recommendation is go to a mountain that limits the amount of people and takes a reservation.
